About

STEP brings nearly 1,000 North Carolinian elementary and middle school students to UNC’s campus each spring with the aim of exposing youth to higher education and sharing how a Bachelor’s degree can be made affordable.

Currently, students of certain demographics have an advantage when seeking higher education. Part of this advantage is due to mere exposure: students who are given information and resources about higher education are more likely to desire and attain it. STEP's mission is to help close this exposure gap.

Educational prosperity means that all students are able to thrive in an academic setting regardless of race, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic status, or disability
